Soren has advised more than 30 energy companies on energy trading and risk management issues. This experience ranges from diagnostic and assurance reviews, design of governance arrangements and policies, risk modelling and performance measurement through to development of trading and market entry strategies and design of contractual arrangements. For example, with ESP Consulting Soren:

• Supported Alpiq on the development of new risk policies, procedures and processes;
• Led review of trading and risk management processes for OVO Energy;
• Supported ESB as they prepared to enter the Irish gas market in 2011 and later led design of new book structures as part of ETRM implementation; and
• Advised Bord Gais Energy on a wide range of ETRM related topics during our 3-year long support to their ISEM implementation programme.

Prior to ESP Consulting, Soren worked for wide range of European energy companies and utilities. For example, this includes Dong Energy (now Orsted), Scottish Power, EDF Energy, Statkraft, Endessa, EDP (in Brazil), ENI and Verbund (APT).

Soren has delivered several large business improvement programmes spanning the wider commercial organisation and business model. This work has included large established energy companies as well as setup of entirely new commercial and trading operations in both mature and emerging markets. These programmes typically involve multi-disciplinary teams extending to business process design, IT as well as programme management.

With ESP Consulting, Soren has spent close to 5 years supporting large transformation programmes at Alpiq and Bord Gais Energy (BGE), respectively.

• Soren led our support to Alpiq on two consecutive group-wide transformation and cost reduction programmes tasked with delivering a streamlined organisation and achieving significant enduring cost savings. These programmes spanned both business and group centre functions; and
• From 2015 to 2018, Soren led our support to BGE as it prepared for the launch of the new ISEM market in late 2018. Our involvement ranged from support on implementation of new IT systems, detailed design of revised processes and modelling, through to programme management including acting as the external advisor to the project board.

Prior to ESP Consulting, Soren worked on several large transformation and implementation programme. This included Dong Energy (now Orsted), British Energy (prior to merger with EDF Energy), Scottish Power, London Electricity (now EDF Energy) as well as several assignments to set up new trading functions.

Soren brings a significant track-record in advising Governments and regulators, as well as market participants, on trading arrangements and industry reform in both mature and emerging markets. For example, with ESP Consulting Soren:

• Led our team which advised the Department of Energy and Climate Change (now BEIS) on the design of FIT CfDs;
• Led a study for DECC on Liquidity Intervention Options (publication can be fund here);
• Acted as senior advisor to Ofgem on liquidity in the GB electricity and gas wholesale markets; and
• Was appointed Trading Advisor to the UK Treasury (HMT) for the new nuclear plant at Hinkley Point C.

Prior to ESP Consulting, Soren worked on market liberalisation and reform in countries such as Ireland, UK, Poland, Austria, Russia as well as South Africa, South Korea and Australia.
