Maddy has over 6 years experience in analytical consultancy, including in energy networks regulation, energy trading and wholesale market policy. She has experience in supporting major transformation programmes in the energy industry, as well as research, analysis and modelling to inform strategic decision-making.
With a background in operational research (in which she has an MSc), Maddy has expertise in working with advanced analytical and modelling methodologies, including forecasting, optimisation and simulation, which she has applied in recent modelling assignments for the UK Government and for large energy companies.
She has worked with two electricity Distribution Network Operators in both the DPCR5 and RIIO ED1 Price Controls, providing analysis to support their submissions to Ofgem. Building on this regulation experience, she reviewed Competition Commission precedents for an interconnector (UK).
Energy Trading & Risk Management
Maddy has worked with a vertically integrated utility in shaping its trading development programme, and through the implementation of the restructuring of a continental vertically integrated utility. She has completed a number of risk modelling assignments since joining ESP, such as simulating Mark-to-market and total collateral requirements.
Regulation and Market Reform
Maddy recently worked with two DNOs as part of the RIIO ED1 Price Control, providing analysis to support interpretation of Ofgem proposals and justification of business plans. She was also was part of the core advisory team of one of the UK Distribution Network Operators (DNOs) through the 5th Distribution Price Control (DPCR5). Building on this regulation experience, she reviewed Competition Commission precedents for an interconnector.
Maddy has significant experience in IT led transformation projects. This experience includes roles in programme management and responsibility for the development of detailed business cases. Recently Maddy spent over a year working with Alpiq (a major Swiss utility) to shape and manage a major change to its trading organisation and support functions. Maddy is a registered Prince2 Practitioner.
