David has over 7 years of energy industry experience across the value chain, having worked within the renewables, supply, trading and corporate functions of a large European utility. His roles have included commercial optimisation, risk analysis, project management, corporate development and strategy.
Supported by his background in mathematics and physics, David has a strong suite of analytical expertise, complemented by expertise in energy strategy. Having worked in both UK and Germany, he has had responsibility for projects in several European markets. These have included reserve service and product development, creation of energy trading tools, negotiation of contracts to establish routes to market, and evaluation of markets specific and adjacent to energy.
Energy Trading and Risk Management
David has experience both managing risks associated with and optimising commodity positions. In terms of the former, he has defined hedge strategies of Dutch conventional power plant portfolios, created hedging tools and data flow processes and chaired RWE’s group-wide committee around carbon asset books. Regarding the latter, he has been responsible for the long term traded position and short term reforecasting and optimisation of European renewable asset portfolios.
David has led development and marketing of reserve and ancillary services from UK renewable assets to the network operator. This includes creating a successful bid strategy for hydro assets into reserve markets and pioneering new approaches to provide negative reserve from wind farms.
Business Model and Strategy
While working for RWE npower, David held responsibilities for a wide range of projects, as well as a business partnering role to B2B business units. His projects included the review of operational set up of business units, formulating and communicating high level strategy, advising on upcoming regulatory change and market reviews of Demand Side Response, micro CHP and Generation Services.
